The United Nations (UN) during
its General Assembly session on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 called for an end
to Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories. This was supported by
124 member states, while 12 countries opposed, and 43 countries abstained or
did not vote. The political stance of the PB General Assembly actually
strengthens the opinion of the International Court of Justice or the UN Supreme
Court in July 2024 which states that Israel's occupation of Palestine is
illegal or violates international law so it must be ended. However, even though
it has been clearly stated that Israel is in the wrong position, the
Palestinian position remains in an oppressed condition. The Palestinians do not
get their basic rights to live independently, sovereignly, and freely determine
their own destiny. Israel continues to colonize the land and people of
Palestine.

Gaza is being destroyed, the West
Bank is slowly being annexed and Palestinian children are being killed. Is this
what is called justice and civilization? No, this is what is called
arbitrariness. The UN does exist, the UN does speak out for Palestine. Unfortunately,
the UN does not want and dare to take firm action against Israel. The UN can
only call for Isarel to stop the occupation of Palestine without being able to
do much concrete action, daring to pressure the barbaric state to really stop.
The UN is only satisfied up to
that point, do not blame if then hardline groups such as Hezbollah, Khouti,
Hamas are increasingly militant against Israel. This is because the UN that has
the authority to do something to realize world justice is not reliable. The
Palestinians are even more harmed by the loss of many lives, the destruction of
their homeland, and the reduction of their sovereign territory. Does the UN
dare to take action against Israel to comply with international norms and laws?
This is a self-criticism that must be answered by the UN. I will continue to
speak out: Free Palestine and take firm action against Israel!
