Think this fact, Australia is truly neighbor state of Indonesia. But, do you know when for the first time Australia officially gave its recognition toward Indonesia`s sovereignty and independence? As recorded by history, Australia was the only one country nearest Indonesia giving its support to cultivate Indonesia`s independence from the Dutch`s obstacles. Started by Australia's support toward port labor blockade against the Dutch's ship carrying guns and ammunition to attack Indonesia. Furthermore, Australia continued support by sending its best diplomat Richard Kirby to actively involved in Good Services Commissions sponsored by United Nations in order to mediate Indonesia-Dutch`s conflict after the outbreak of Dutch Military Aggression I.

Moreover, Australia still boosted Indonesia by sending his envoy Thomas Critchley to more actively engaged in United Nations Conference for Indonesia (UNCI) after the Dutch Military Aggression II broke out. In reality, UNCI successfully forced Dutch to end its violence toward Indonesia and shortly establish negotiation to settle the dispute. In the end, Indonesia-Dutch agreed to organize round table conference and generated some specific results such as the Dutch readiness to concede Indonesia`s independence. Finally, on December 27, 1949 the Dutch officially handed sovereignty over Indonesia. In the same day, Australia was also formally recognized Indonesia as the sovereign state. It can be concluded that 27 December 1949 was the historical day for Australia and Indonesia because in this date both states admitted each other.
